Iraqi Judiciary Signs Strategic Agreement with Eurojust to Enhance Criminal Justice Cooperation
The National Center for International Judicial Cooperation of the Supreme Judicial Council has signed a strategic working agreement with the European Union Agency for Criminal Justice Cooperation (Eurojust) at the agency's headquarters in The Hague. The agreement was signed by the Head of the Center, Judge Ali Hussein Jaffat, on behalf of Iraq, and Eurojust President Michael Schmid, in the presence of high-ranking judicial and diplomatic figures. Judge Jaffat emphasized that the agreement represents a significant achievement reflecting mutual trust, aimed at combating terrorism and organized crime, and advancing extradition mechanisms. For his part, Schmid highlighted the importance of data exchange for successful criminal investigations. Iraq is now the tenth non-EU country to establish such a partnership to streamline legal procedures and the extradition of suspects.
