Ministry of Electricity Announces 20,000 MW Production, Launches Campaign Against Illegal Grid Connections
The Ministry of Electricity revealed on Friday a significant deficit between actual power production and growing demand, announcing the launch of a comprehensive national campaign to remove illegal connections from the electrical grid in Baghdad and other provinces. The Ministry explained that current production stands at approximately 20,000 megawatts, while actual demand is estimated at 62,000 megawatts. It noted that grid losses have exceeded 55% due to illegal tapping and technical waste, in addition to the loss of roughly 7,000 megawatts since the onset of recent regional tensions. The Ministry urged citizens to cooperate with technical teams, allow the installation of official smart meters, and comply with legal guidelines to help stabilize the national grid and reduce power outages.
