Counter-Terrorism Service Launches Large-Scale Security Operation to Track Down Terrorist Remnants Across Multiple Governorates

The Counter-Terrorism Service announced on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, the launch of a comprehensive security search campaign aimed at bolstering security and stability, pursuing the remnants of terrorist gangs, and destroying their hideouts. In an official statement, the Service clarified that its military units have commenced precise ground and aerial reconnaissance operations based on intensive intelligence and field data, supported by specialized K9 units and explosive ordnance disposal teams. The extensive campaign covered various regions stretching from the western desert of Nineveh and Baiji in Salah Al-Din, through the Najaf desert and Al-Nukhaib desert in Al-Anbar, Qazaniya and Mandali in Diyala and Wasit, down to Al-Fuhood district in Dhi Qar and the desert areas in Al-Muthanna and Basra.
