Recent research studies from the Wellbeing Research Centre at the University of Oxford have warned against the escalating negative impacts of excessive social media usage. The studies highlighted the phenomenon of "endless scrolling," which significantly contributes to the gradual deterioration of users' mental health. The reports confirmed a strong correlation between spending long periods on these platforms and declining happiness indicators, especially among the youth, coinciding with the widespread adoption of digital applications. Researchers explained that the technical design of these platforms fosters behavioral addiction, turning a few minutes of use into long hours, which generates psychological strain and raises anxiety and stress levels due to the consumption of negative content. Specialists called for the necessity of adopting balanced digital habits and utilizing screen-time control tools available on smart devices to limit excessive usage, aiming to restore focus and preserve the mental health of users.
