Baghdad Municipality Moves to Privatize the Waste Sector and Convert Refuse into Electrical Energy

The Baghdad Municipality revealed its strategic intention to privatize the waste sector, transforming it into a promising investment opportunity in the upcoming phase. Municipality officials explained that the capital collects approximately 10,000 tons of waste daily, prompting authorities to seek modern and environmentally safe disposal methods. In this context, an investment opportunity was granted in collaboration with the Ministries of Environment and Electricity to process and incinerate 3,000 tons daily at the Nahrawan landfill, generating up to 100 megawatts of electricity. Future plans for a similar project in the Abu Ghraib area are also underway.
