Basra Boosts Agricultural Plan by Expanding Wheat and Barley Cultivation Areas for the 2026 Season

mesoiraq - The Basra Agriculture Directorate has announced a strategic plan to expand the agricultural areas dedicated to wheat and barley crops, as well as to boost tomato production for the current season. Official statistics indicate a significant increase in cultivated areas, exceeding 53,000 dunams for wheat, with expectations of tomato production rising to 650,000 tons. Relevant authorities have tied the success of this ambitious plan to securing adequate water supplies, in addition to finding radical solutions for soil salinity, production costs, and crop marketing challenges to ensure farmers' rights.
