mesoiraq - Economic expert Nabil al-Marsoumi revealed on Thursday (September 10, 2026) details of the Kurdistan Region's demands in the 2027 budget, noting that the region is seeking to raise its financial share based on the results of the general population census.

Al-Marsoumi said the region is requesting an increase in its allocated share from 12.67% to 14.1% according to the 2024 census results, explaining that the total requested share amounts to 29 trillion dinars, distributed as 6.4 trillion dinars for investment spending and 22.6 trillion dinars for operational spending.

He explained that operational spending includes 11.7 trillion dinars for salaries, an increase of 2.2 trillion dinars over the three-year budget, noting that the region's demands also include approximately 24,000 new job grades, as well as the stabilization of 59,000 contract employees on permanent payrolls.

He pointed out that the region's demands for social protection and retirement have risen to 6.1 trillion dinars compared to 3.2 trillion in 2025, including one trillion dinars to cover a 100,000-dinar salary increase for retirees earning less than one million dinars.
