Civil Defense Contains Ammonia Leak at Fertilizer Facility in Basra

mesoiraq - Iraq's Civil Defense Directorate announced that an ammonia gas leak at a fertilizer facility in the Khor Al-Zubair area of Basra had been brought under control following emergency rescue and evacuation operations.

The incident resulted in the deaths of two workers and caused breathing difficulties for around 50 people, while rescue and hazardous materials response teams managed to save ten employees from inside the facility.

Ambulances transported the injured to healthcare facilities for medical treatment, while specialized teams secured the site and addressed the effects of the leak.

Initial assessments indicated that the incident was caused by an accidental gas leak, and specialized teams took the necessary measures to contain the situation and limit its impact.
