Completion of Strategic Water Barriers to Limit the Spread of Water Hyacinth in Iraqi Rivers

mesoiraq - Government authorities responsible for water resources announced the completion of a series of strategic barriers along the Euphrates River and Shatt al-Rumaitha, as part of a broad national campaign to combat the "water hyacinth" plant and curb its disastrous spread in waterways. Engineering and technical efforts have resulted in the installation of robust barriers between southern provinces to trap the plants and prevent their transmission, in addition to constructing supplementary barriers near vital bridges. These preventive measures aim to clear the water bottlenecks caused by this plant in streams and rivers, thereby enhancing the smooth flow of water and ensuring that allocated water quotas efficiently reach agricultural lands and benefiting areas.
