Demands to Reopen Investigation into the Embezzlement of 40 Billion Dinars in Diyala Governorate
Local officials in Diyala Governorate have demanded urgent action to reopen the investigation into the administrative and financial corruption case related to the embezzlement of compensation funds allocated for affected and displaced families, a case locally dubbed the "Heist of the Century in Diyala." Raad Al-Tamimi, a member of the Provincial Council, explained that the embezzled amounts are estimated at approximately 40 billion Iraqi dinars. These funds were intended to alleviate the suffering of thousands of displaced families and assist them in returning to their homes. Al-Tamimi pointed out that influential corruption networks are involved in the manipulation of these funds, emphasizing the necessity of direct intervention by the central government to ensure the recovery of the looted money and to hold those involved accountable. He also stressed that continuing in-depth investigations could reveal even larger figures and more severe facts within this sensitive file.
