Distress Call from Basra to Address Water Crisis and Urgent Demands to Hold Violators Accountable
Human rights authorities in Basra Governorate have issued urgent appeals to the federal government to expedite finding radical solutions to the water crisis plaguing the province, demanding the repair of major water canals to ensure fair water quotas reach affected districts. The appeals emphasized the necessity of implementing rapid emergency plans to hold entities and companies accountable for encroaching on water shares. Government bodies were also urged to exempt citizens from water utility fees due to the poor quality, high salinity, and pollution levels, which pose a direct threat to public health.
