Governmental Moves to Protect Archaeological and Heritage Sites in Baghdad from Extinction

Relevant authorities in the capital, Baghdad, are placing the protection of archaeological and heritage sites at the top of their priorities to combat neglect and increasing encroachments that threaten to erase the city's historical identity. Several important areas and archaeological sites have been identified as suffering from random transgressions and commercial projects that threaten their survival, prompting official moves to address higher authorities to put an end to these violations. Specialized committees have called for a comprehensive field survey of all landmarks and heritage buildings in collaboration with the Ministries of Culture and Tourism, and the Mayoralty of Baghdad, aiming to remove conflicts and formulate an action plan to protect and rehabilitate them. These efforts aim to highlight the capital's cultural and civilizational value, transforming these exceptional sites into tourist landmarks that support the local economy and contribute to preserving the country's historical legacy.
