Ministry of Finance Launches First Phase of Performance Budgeting Starting with Electricity Sector and Two Governorates

Finance Minister Faleh Sari confirmed the initiation of the first phase of the performance and program budgeting, which will cover the electricity sector and the governorates of Al-Diwaniyah and Salah Al-Din, paving the way for expanding the model to all state institutions over the next three years. During a comprehensive meeting with the Parliamentary Finance Committee, Sari explained that the Ministry of Electricity was selected due to the massive financial expenditure it has witnessed in recent years without achieving the desired goals, necessitating a new financial mechanism to ensure spending is directed toward measurable results and sustainable solutions. He added that the inclusion of Al-Diwaniyah and Salah Al-Din aims to accelerate service and developmental projects, directing resources according to actual priorities. The meeting also discussed the general financial situation and steps taken to maximize non-oil revenues, emphasizing the importance of joint coordination between the executive and legislative branches to ensure the success of financial and administrative reforms.
