Seven-Year Prison Sentence for Former MP over Illicit Enrichment and Fund Inflation
mesoiraq - Competent integrity courts have sentenced a former member of the Iraqi Parliament to seven years in prison following his conviction for illicit enrichment and the unjustified inflation of personal wealth. Official investigations revealed that the illicit financial inflation in the convict's assets amounted to approximately 35 billion Iraqi dinars. The judicial ruling obligates the convict to return the value of the illicit gains and pay an equivalent fine, bringing the total mandated repayment to nearly 70 billion dinars, in a firm step towards recovering public funds and combating corruption.
