Accelerated Steps to End Associated Gas Flaring and Efforts to Invest Billions in Wasted Wealth
The flaring of associated gas during oil extraction represents one of the most prominent economic and environmental challenges accumulated over decades, causing the waste of massive strategic wealth that could be utilized to support the energy sector and generate huge financial returns. In this context, government authorities have intensified efforts to implement broad strategic projects to capture gas and reduce flaring, aiming to enhance energy security and reduce environmental pollution. Parliamentary statements and energy experts confirmed that current gas investment projects have achieved advanced completion rates, expecting the complete elimination of flaring by the end of this year or early the following year at the latest. Estimates indicated that losses from gas flaring cost the public treasury billions of dollars annually, in addition to severe environmental and health repercussions. Completing these technologically complex projects will provide massive quantities of gas to operate power plants, reduce reliance on imports, and open prospects for exporting the surplus in the future.
