Communications and Media Commission Announces Imminent Launch of Satellite Internet Services in Iraq
The Chief Executive Officer of the Communications and Media Commission (CMC) confirmed that Iraq has reached the final stages of completing procedures for licensing "Starlink" satellite internet services, paving the way for introducing the latest space communication technologies to the Iraqi market within regulatory frameworks that protect national interests. During a speech delivered at a telecommunications summit, he explained that the sector represents a crucial sovereign pillar and a primary driver of the digital economy. He emphasized that the CMC is currently focusing on improving service quality, expanding fiber-optic networks, and preparing the transition to 5G technologies. He also affirmed the CMC's commitment to supporting investment and creating a fair competitive environment reliant on modern technologies and artificial intelligence to develop a sustainable infrastructure that meets the country's digital transformation aspirations.
