A Network's Threads Unravel One by One: National Security Seizes a Marijuana Depot in Baghdad

mesoiraq - The Iraqi National Security Agency announced on Friday the dismantling of a network specialized in drug trafficking and promotion in the capital, Baghdad, and the arrest of its six members, in addition to seizing about 3.5 kilograms of marijuana inside one of the network's depots.

The agency explained in an official statement that the operation came as a result of intelligence and field efforts that began with information about one of the marijuana dealers, before follow-up and tracking operations led to uncovering the network's extensions and reaching its depot.

It added that the agency's detachments, after obtaining judicial approvals from the competent judge in Baghdad, were able to set up an ambush for the first defendant and arrest him, after which tracking operations continued that resulted in the arrest of the rest of the network's members.

It indicated that investigations and field inquiries led to a marijuana depot hidden inside an abandoned house, which was raided and the narcotic quantity found inside was seized.

The agency confirmed handing over the defendants and the seized materials to the competent authorities to take the necessary legal measures against them.
