Finance Ministry Prepares to Expand Program-Based Budget.. Electricity Sector Top Priority

mesoiraq - Finance Minister Faleh Sari chaired today, Saturday (September 12, 2026), a joint meeting that brought together the Budget Department and representatives of the Ministry of Electricity to follow up on the preparation of the program-based budget for the electricity sector.

The meeting addressed the programs and projects related to the production, transmission and distribution sectors, as well as the mechanisms for determining their priorities and linking allocated resources to targeted goals and outcomes, enabling the measurement of actual spending results on the ground.

The Minister stressed during the meeting the importance of basing the electricity sector's budget on clear programs, defined objectives and measurable indicators, which would help direct resources toward the sector's actual priorities, enhance spending efficiency and achieve tangible results.

The meeting comes as part of continued work on preparing the program-based budget, which adopts linking resource allocation to programs, goals and outcomes, in preparation for expanding the application of this methodology to various state sectors and institutions.
