UN Commends Iraq's Progress in Asset Recovery and Anti-Corruption Reforms

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) commended the significant measures implemented by the Iraqi government in asset recovery and anti-corruption frameworks. UNDP officials highlighted Iraq's tangible advancements in tracking looted funds and executing legislative reforms, stressing the necessity of sustained judicial representation in international cases. Over the past decade, UN support for Iraqi institutions encompassed drafting the national integrity strategy, providing technical assistance, and facilitating mutual legal assistance agreements for extradition and asset retrieval. These concerted efforts reflected positively on Iraq's standing in the International Corruption Perceptions Index, advancing to rank 136 out of 182 countries in 2025, up from 161 in 2015, thereby laying a stronger foundation for economic development and foreign investment.
